There\u2019s no question the bridge on River Road in Antis Township needs replaced.
\nLast evening, the supervisors at Antis Township took the next step in the project as township engineer Gary Wisor of Stiffler McGraw and Associates opened bids for the project.
\nOf the five bids, three were in the same price area while one was higher and one was lower.
\nThe low bid was submitted by Cottles Asphalt Inc. at $37,977.47. D.C. Ventre was the high bidder at $90,082.05. The others were $62,880.95 by D.A.C. Enterprises, $69,707 by Gordon L. Delozier and $77,315 by H.R.I.
\n\u201cThis really has my curiosity,\u201d said Chairman Supervisor Leo Matuszewski.
\nAccording to Wisor, his firm estimated costs to replace the bridge at around $35,000.
\nA representative of D.C. Vente attended the meeting to observe the openings. He said the raw costs of the materials to do the work alone came in over the engineer\u2019s estimate.
\n\u201cWhat we need to do now is check the math and come back with some firm figures at the next meeting,\u201d said Wisor. \u201cWe\u2019ll then be able to award the contract.\u201d
\nAccording to Vice-Chairman Supervisor Ray Amato, the work will take no more than two weeks to complete, but could be completed in less than a week.
