The Tyrone Area School District Board of Directors conducted its normal monthly business at its meeting last night. Board member William Hartsock was absent.
\nThe evening started with recognition of board members and administrators who completed 12 or more points of training with the Pennsylvania School Board Association training during the 2002 calendar year.
\nBoard members Brian Bressler, Pete Dutrow and Norman Huff and administrators Dr. William Miller, Joann Lang and Cathy Peachy received certificates for their training.
\nThe board also recognized students who have achieved state-wide success.
\nChoral director Cathy Young presented Melody Garthwaite and band director Kris Laird presented Morgann Davis, who will be attending the State Choral and State Band festivals, respectively, in Hershey next weekend.
\nTyrone swim coach Rich Bishop presented Eric Nulton to the board for his qualification for the PIAA State Swimming Championships, wrestling coach Blair Packer presented Thad Westley and Terry Tate for their qualification for the PIAA State Wrestling Championships and basketball coach Mike Harris presented Tyler Mertiff for his selection as an Associated Press Second Team All-State Basketball player in Class AAA.
\nThe board then was presented a slide presentation from Special Education\/Life Skills teacher John Rossman. He showed the board what happens throughout the year with his class.
\nThe board acted on several position transfers and filled openings. These include:
\n\u2022 accepted the resignation of Don Wagner, high school guidence counselor;
\n\u2022 approved the transfer of Todd Camarata from middle school social studies teacher to high school social studies\/community service teacher for the 2003-04 school year;
\n\u2022 approved the transfer of Crystal Ramsey from seventh grade social studies teacher to eighth grade social studies teacher for the 2003-04 school year;
\n\u2022 approved the transfer of Luke Rhoades from elementary coordinator to the position of seventh grade social studies teacher for the 2003-04 school year;
\n\u2022 approved the election of Tracy Rehner as a senior high social studies teacher at a salary of $31,792 for the 2003-04 school year;
\n\u2022 approved the election of Leah Dobrowsky as grade 9-10 english teacher at a salary of $31,792 for the 2003-04 school year;
\n\u2022 approved the election of Jeffrey King as grade 11 english teacher at a salary of $36,117 for the 2003-04 school year;
\n\u2022 accepted the resignation of Kimberly McGinnis-Green as high school drama coach.
