Diana Worthing and her husband David haven\u2019t heard from their son Adam in weeks.
\nAdam is somewhere in the Middle East, fighting for the freedom of the Iraqi people.
\nAdam is a Marine and part of the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion. He\u2019s on the front lines, but Mr. and Mrs. Worthing don\u2019t know where.
\n\u201cIt\u2019s awful,\u201d said Mrs. Worthing. \u201cYou hear of all these other (battalions and infantry units) on television and in the paper, but his is not one of those groups where they say where they are. We\u2019re not able to get anything.\u201d
\nThe Worthings are not alone. Dozens of families in the area are sitting on the edge of their seats, waiting for word of their sons\u2019 and daughters\u2019 whereabouts. Many just sit and wait for something to happen.
\nBut the Worthings are different in a way. They want to do something here on the homefront to press the word of support for the troops and let them know they are not forgotten back here.
\nSo with the help of the Bellwood-Antis High School Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a number of local servicemen\u2019s parents, a support rally has been scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday in the auditorium at the Bellwood-Antis High School.
\n\u201cAll of this came up since Wednesday,\u201d said Mrs. Worthing. \u201cMy husband and I thought we should do something. I was getting a little irritated that no one was doing anything here in this area. We thought, \u2018Let\u2019s see what we can throw together\u2019.\u201d
\nAccording to Mrs. Worthing, the rally should hold a political type feel, although that\u2019s not the intent of the gathering. She said the Bellwood-Antis Spirit Club will construct rally posters and distinguished members of the community will speak. Special music will be provided by the B-A chorus. Pastor Norman Huff will also sing at the gathering.
\n\u201cWe want to show some enthusiasm and support for all our men and women that are serving our country,\u201d said Mrs. Worthing. \u201cWe\u2019re hoping we get a lot of people that will make a lot of noise and support these important people.\u201d
\nMrs. Worthing said the group would also like to collect photos of the local service people and collage them into a larger poster.
\n\u201cWal-Mart, graciously, has said they would donate the reprints for us,\u201d said Mrs. Worthing. \u201cWe\u2019re having them all enlarged to 8-by-10.\u201d
\n For those wishing to submit photos for use at the rally, contact Mrs. Worthing at 742-8316 or drop the photos off at the Bellwood High School by no later than Thursday at noon.
