In a meeting that took just nine minutes, Tyrone Borough Council addressed three issues.
\nBorough Fire Marshall Tom Rumberger submitted his resignation to the council. Council member James Beckwith, who also serves as borough fire chief, nominated Jeffrey Watson Jr. to succeed Rumberger. The motion was seconded by council member Sharon Dannaway and the measure passed 7-0 with Watson abstaining.
\n\u201cJeff is qualified and meets all the requirements of the borough,\u201d said Beckwith following Watson\u2019s appointment.
\n\u201cThe last couple fires, I have been the go between with the state police.\u201d Watson said.
\nThe borough will make contact with the state police fire marshal that Watson is the new fire marshal for Tyrone.
\nIn other council news, Darrell Golden will be retiring from the borough highway department effective May 16 and Greg White was hired as a new part-time meter reader for the water department.
\nThere was also a request to exceed the maximum spending limit on two housing rehabilitation projects.
\n\u201cWe have distributed information to council concerning two additional properties that are experiencing increased costs,\u201d said Tyrone Borough Manager Al Drayovitch. \u201cThe increased costs are primarily due to a lead abatement requirements under the program.\u201d
\nFollowing a motion by Sharon Dannaway and a second by Virgie Werner, the council approved the motion by a 8-0 vote.
\nPrior to the meeting, Mayor Pat Stoner announced to the audience that council met in executive session Sunday afternoon and prior to the meeting on Monday night concerning personnel matters.
\nDuring the public comment, James Ray asked the council about the ongoing discussions between the borough and Snyder Township concerning fire support.
\n\u201cWe had a recent meeting with the chairman of Snyder Township (Jim Daughenbaugh),\u201d said Drayovitch. \u201cIt appears that we are going to reach a resolution on that. I don\u2019t think we are ready to disclose precisely, but we\u2019ve given them a proposal we\u2019re hopeful that it will be granted.\u201d
