The Tyrone YMCA will be the venue for the highly-anticipated rematch of the annual b-ball contest pitting the Pittsburgh Steeler All-Stars basketball team against the Tyrone No-Stars.
\nLast year, the Steelers defeated the local offering handily in Barney Mogle Memorial Gymnasium; however, YMCA Executive Director Amy Hampton said there might be a secret weapon on the sidelines of the No Stars this year that might just push them over the hump.
\n\u201cYou just might see me out there on the court,\u201d joked Hampton.
\nBilled as \u201cone of the largest\u201d YMCA fundraisers of the year, the annual Steelers\u2019-No-Stars game is scheduled to tip-off at 7:30 p.m. March 1. Tickets are $5 at the door.
\n\u201cWe\u2019re expecting to raise between $4,000 and $6,000 at this event,\u201d said Hampton. \u201cWe had a good turnout last year and with the players that are expected to play this year, we\u2019re hoping to bring in another large crowd and put on a good, entertaining show.\u201d
\nAccording to Hampton, players scheduled to attend include Hines Ward, Jerry Porter, Amos Zereoue and Chris Fuamatu-Ma afala.
\nThe Tyrone No Stars is the local team, made up of players who either raised $300 or flat out paid the fee to participate. For information on how to participate, contact the YMCA at 684-2740.
\nJust prior to the \u201cbig game,\u201d the yearly local match-up of the Bellwood-Antis Blue Devil alumni and the Tyrone Golden Eagle alumni will take place. Fred Miller is the coordinator of the Tyrone squad, while Rich Shoop orchestrates the Devils\u2019 side.
\nThis year\u2019s event is slightly earlier than those of past years said Hampton. Normally, they are held later in the month.
