As the snow melts on the curbs of downtown Tyrone, I will stop my ranting about the removal.
\nIt appears that maybe something might be done in the future involving the borough, the Chamber of Commerce and some other organizations. At least that is what was discussed at the Tyrone Chamber of Commerce breakfast. After all, why should downtown Tyrone just look nice in the spring and summer? I thought these new sidewalks and beautiful red brick curbs and new street lights were important to the new image?
\nIf so, then why not keep them looking good all year long, and at the same time, help the businesses and shoppers who want to be here during the winter months. At least now I understand! All I ever really wanted to know was why it couldnt be done!
\nI enjoyed the Tyrone Community Partnerships St. Patrick\u2019s Day Irish Stew Celebration last night at the Citizens Fire Department Social Hall. A job well done on another unique event in town. It will be great to grow St. Patricks\u2019 Day in Tyrone. A parade is even being discussed.
\nSorry, but the Team Tyrone concept was a bust! But I can fully understand a person changing their mind to run for office. It\u2019s not an easy job no matter how large or small the position.
\nMembers of my staff can testify that last Friday, I was called by the head of the Indiana County Democratic Party and was asked at the last minute to run for county commissioner back home.
\nI turned it down within 24 hours for several reasons.
\nWhile I\u2019m flattered, I just don\u2019t have the time to focus and I can\u2019t do something like that at the last minute. I\u2019m one of those fail to plan, plan to fail people. For those that are going to run for Tyrone Borough Council, plan to run good campaigns with ideas and a focus on the future of this community. If you\u2019re running to just get revenge or cause problems. It probably won\u2019t work!
\nI enjoyed reading yesterday\u2019s Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce monthly newsletter. Our editor did a nice job of putting together the information provided by the chamber.
\nSometime this spring or summer, a documentary on Tyrone is to be done by an outside group. That is another positive for this community.
\nI also enjoyed attending my first Snyder Township Supervisors meeting. In all of my years of covering meetings, I have never seen so much interaction between elected officials and residents that attended. It was refreshing and this group of supervisors listened to the people, heard their input and reacted to it. Is anyone following my lead here?
\nIs anyone interested in going halves with me on a \u201cWelcome to Tyrone, Exit Here\u201d billboard on I-99? I have a friend at the billboard company who I think would help with this!
\nIt has sure been quiet at the old Westvaco plant. I haven\u2019t even seen a car in any parking lot lately
\nGardners Candies shop is just really nice. With Easter coming, it is especially beautiful inside. Plus, I love their giant milk shakes.
\nI\u2019m excited to be working with the Altoona Curve this season on our new radio station back home. This organization is a class act and does a wonderful job in trying to interact with their fans. They appreciate communities like Tyrone and Bellwood. And this years\u2019 theme of \u201cEverybody\u2019s Hometown Team\u201d is moving into other towns like Indiana, Ebensburg and even Johnstown.
\nHave you noticed even more local stories and now local photos in The Daily Herald recently? I would love to hear more feedback on what you would love to see in this daily paper.
\nI can\u2019t even begin to tell you how many great photographs we\u2019ve received for our special Tyrone Historical Pictorial arriving later this month. Today, I received some classic Tyrone baseball pictures, overhead shots of downtown Tyrone and wonderful pictures of large crowds gathered lining the streets of 10th and Pennsylvania avenues. I have really enjoyed looking at this community\u2019s history and thank you again for sharing. The piece goes to production next Thursday and all of your photographs will then be returned to you.
