Representatives Jerry Stern and Larry Sather were on hand when the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee and Senate collegues for a presentation of a $250,000 check to the Disabled American Veterans Association in support of its veterans\u2019 transportation service.
\nThe program was established in 1988 to provide Pennsylvania veterans transportation to the nine VA medical centers in the commonwealth. The veterans are picked up and dropped off at their homes, or at designated locations. All drivers, as well as everyone else affiliated with the program, are volunteers.
\n\u201cWe have an obligation to help those who\u2019ve defended our freedom and our way of life,\u201d said Stern. \u201cThey risked their lives for us, it\u2019s the least we can do to help them receive the medical care they need.
\n\u201cThis important program will continue thanks in large part to this grant,\u201d said Sather. \u201cI am pleased that we are continuing our commitment to our disabled veterans, even in these lean times.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
