{"id":47359,"date":"2003-01-18T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2003-01-18T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tyronepa.com\/v3\/?p="},"modified":"2003-01-18T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2003-01-18T00:00:00","slug":"This-week-in-Bellwood-Antis-wrestling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tyronepa.com\/?p=47359","title":{"rendered":"This week in Bellwood-Antis wrestling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bellwood-Antis dropped a 34-26 decision to Portage on the winner\u2019s mat on Jan. 12. 1984.<br \/>\nPortage received a forfeit at 98, to begin the match and won by fall at 105 to take a 12-0 lead before Mike Cherry put the Blue Devils on the scoreboard with a 7-3 win at 112 for head coach Darrell Claar.<br \/>\n Cherry opened up a 4-1 score in the first period on a takedown and two nearfall points, then pushed the advantage to 7-1 after two periods with an escape and takedown.<br \/>\nTracey Karlie kept the momentum going with a first-period fall at 119. Karlie, who would finish 24-2, including third place medals at both Regional and States, took his foe down and registered a pair of back points and then traded reversals for a6-2 lead when he decked his opponent in 0:57.<br \/>\nAt 132, Bob Noye used a big third period for a 12-5 win. Leading 6-2, Noye added a takedown, reversal and a three-point nearfall to get the win going away.<br \/>\nGreg Swayne lost a tough 6-4 decision at 138, Down 6-2 late in the match, Swayne escaped and garnered a takedown, but ran out of time still down two match points.<br \/>\nIn a time period before team duals both duals and individual matches, Scott Replogle came away with a 5-5 tie at 155. Replogle jumped out to a 5-2 lead with adding a second period escape to a first-period reversal and two-point nearfall. The third was all Mustang however, as Replogle\u2019s opponent scored on an escape and takedown to end the match 5-5.<br \/>\nWith the dual meet already decided in Portage\u2019s favor, Bellwod-Antis came back strong with two pins to end the match,<br \/>\nAt 185, Tom Decker was leading 7-2 on two big three-point nearfalls in the seciond period, when he added a third-period reversal and pinned his man at the 5:03 mark.<br \/>\nRoger Wigman jumped on his opponent for two five-point moves in the first stanza, before adding four more back backs and the pin in 2:57.<br \/>\n Jim Focht and Steve Focht picked up forfeits in the final two weight classes for Bellwood-Antis on Jan. 12, 1993 as the Blue Devils came from behind to defeat Glendale 38-31.<br \/>\nThad White began the dual for B-A by picking up a forfeit at 103<br \/>\nAfter two straight six point wins for Glendale, Andrew Cherry tied the team score at 12-12 by getting a fall in 5:31 at 125, while leading 9-4.<br \/>\nThe Blue Devils won the next three weights to take a 26-12 lead before Glendale came storming back to set up the Focht cousins.<br \/>\nTony Montanaro kept building on a 5-0 first-period lead until he had recorded a 15-0 tech fall at the 4:24 mark. Montanarohad only one takedown, but added a reversal and four sets of nearfalls for the five tyeam-point win at 130.<br \/>\nAt 135, Jason Highduch won a tech fall by the identical 15-0 score and in a similar 4:37 time. Highduch notched a takedown and two nearfalls for an 8-0 lead after one period, jumped that lead to 13-0 after two periods with a reversal ad back points and opened the third period with another nearfall to stop the match with the T-fall.<br \/>\nComanch Garcia pushed the B-A lead to 26-12 with a 17-6 major decision at 140. Six takedowns highlighted Garcia\u2019s major decision along with a reversal and back points.<br \/>\nAfter Portage came back with two pins, a major decision and a regular decision to take a 31-26 lead, but had to forfeit to Jim Focht (185) and Steve Focht (275) to give the Blue Devils the win for coach Pat Detterbeck and assistant Jim Torsell.<br \/>\nBellwood-Antis lost by a single point to Portage 33-34 on Jan. 12, 1999 for coach Jim Torsell and assistant Dave Grazier.<br \/>\nTodd Fuoss picked up a forfeit at 112, to even the score at 6-6, but it would be six matches later with Portage ahead 30-6, before the Blue Devils would score again.<br \/>\nLuke Miller used a first-period takedown and second-period reversal for a 4-0 advantage and then traded two escapes for a takedon by his opponent for a 6-2 win at 145.<br \/>\nFrom 160 to heavyweight, the B;ue Devils ruled, but it was too late to pull the match out.<br \/>\nJason Shura started the Blue Devil pin parade at 160, jumping out to a 6-0 lead on a takedown, nearfall and penalty point before getting the first-period fall in 1:34. At 171, Jeremy Diehl took his man down and went for the quick fall in just 0:23. Chris Miller registered four takedowns and a pair of escapes for a 10-3 lead at pin time when he decked his foe in 3:58 at 189.
