On Friday night in Bellwood, the Lady Blue Devils were looking for a win that would define their season. Unfortunately for them, they may have to wait for another day. The Lady Rams of Penns Valley showed the young Lady Devil squad why they are considered the best team in the Juniata Valley League, as they defeated Bellwood-Antis 57-39.
\nBellwood jumped out to the early lead and held a narrow advantage throughout most of the first quarter. Lady Blue Devil center Katie Gardner led the way scoring 7 points in the first 8 minutes of play. Steph Hatch also added two early buckets of her own.
\nHowever, Penns Valley\u2019s Brittany Corl hit a jumper from short range just before time expired to give the Lady Rams a 12-11 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
\nIn the second quarter, Penns Valley began to get it together.
\nDefensively, the Lady Rams shut the Lady Blue Devils down, holding them to only 6 points in the second quarter.
\nOn the other end of the floor, Laura Anderson and Katrina Greer provided the offense that sparked the Lady Rams to a 24-17 halftime edge.
\nThe second half belonged to PV\u2019s Brittany Corl. The Lady Ram forward scored 12 of her team-high 17 points after halftime. Just as importantly however, she was able to, at times, shut down Bellwood\u2019s leading scorer, Katie Gardner.
\nAlthough the B-A center recorded a game-high 18 points, Gardner was hounded the entire game by the Lady Ram defense. After being scorched by the 5\u201910″ junior for 34 points in the first meeting between the two teams, it was clear that Penns Valley brought a game plan with the intent to stop her.
\nCorl\u2019s second half efforts along with a balanced Penns Valley offensive attack allowed the Lady Rams to open up a sizeable lead as the game neared its end.
\nSeveral times in the latter stages of the game the Lady Blue Devils looked as if they were about to mount a comeback, but each time they were denied.
\nThe Lady Rams iced the game from the free-throw line, going 7-11 from the charity stripe in the fourth period, as they cruised to a 57-39 victory.
\nPenns Valley was led by Brittany Corl with 17 points. The Lady Rams also received 11 points from Katrina Greer, nine points from Laura Anderson, and eightfrom Brandi O\u2019Hara.
\nThe lone bright spot for the Bellwood was Katie Gardner. Although she was never completely able to establish her post game, the Lady Devil center scored a game-high 18 points. Steph Hatch and Ashley Edevane added sixpoints each and Emily Worthing contributed five of her own in the losing cause
\nThe loss dropped the Lady Blue Devils to 10-7 overall on the season and 9-4 in Juniata Valley League play, including a 3-1 record in the league\u2019s second cycle.
\nWith the win, Penns Valley upped its record to 18-1, and remains perfect in the second cycle after claiming the first cycle championship with a win over Juniata Valley last week.

\nBellwood-Antis freshman Lauren Carter scored 12 points as she sparked the Lady Blue Devil jayvees to a 34-30 victory over Penns Valley. Kendra Foor scored 13 in the losing effort for the Lady Rams.
