{"id":47532,"date":"2003-01-07T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2003-01-07T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tyronepa.com\/v3\/?p="},"modified":"2003-01-07T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2003-01-07T00:00:00","slug":"Routine-business-dominates-Bellwood-Borough-Council-agenda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tyronepa.com\/?p=47532","title":{"rendered":"Routine business dominates Bellwood Borough Council agenda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Frozen water, noise on New Road and an internship in the borough\u2019s police department were amongst the topics discussed at last evening\u2019s gathering of Bellwood Borough.<br \/>\nSecretary Susan Waite reports that a contingent of residents of North Second Street spoke to council regarding a property owner who is pumping water from a property in the area onto the street. Waite said as a result of this, water is building up on other\u2019s properties and causing icy conditions.<br \/>\nCouncil decided to have its solicitor draft a letter to the property owner to remedy the problem. Waite said no easements are needed to correct the problem, and council believes it can be rectified without incident.<br \/>\nA resident near New Road approached council regarding noise caused by traffic on the new road and bridge area. Waite said prior to the construction of the new roadway, the area was for the most part, quiet. But now with more traffic on the roadway, things have gotten noisier.<br \/>\nAccording to resident Robert Mazza, the noise is mostly a result of speeding on the roadway.<br \/>\nCouncil decided to add two speed limit signs to the area. Police will enforce the 25 mile-per-hour speed limit.<br \/>\nCurrent Penn State Altoona student Adam Bonsell asked council if he could satisfy educational requirements with an internship in the borough\u2019s police department. According to Waite, the five credits needed would be satisfied with the completion of 200 hours of service with the six officer staff.<br \/>\n\u201cWe\u2019re hoping he can start sometime here in January,\u201d said Waite.<br \/>\nBonsell is a native of the borough.<br \/>\nIn other borough business, council:<br \/>\n\u2022heard praise about the borough work crew\u2019s diligence in roadway maintenance and snow removal within the borough.<br \/>\n\u201cOur guys just do a great job on the roadways,\u201d said Waite. \u201cThey definitely need a pat on their backs.\u201d<br \/>\nWaite said along with the praise, the crew will soon have new equipment to work with. At a previous meeting, council agreed to the purchase of a new borough truck, and last evening, gave the go-ahead to purchase a new plow for the vehicle.<br \/>\n\u2022reminded borough residents that the borough will pick-up Christmas trees through Jan. 17. Council asks that residents place the undecorated tree curbside and not include garbage. The deadline was extended because on inclement weather.<br \/>\nThis is a free service provided to residents of the borough.<br \/>\n\u2022also reminded residents that snow must be cleared from sidewalks no later than 24 hours following a snowfall.<br \/>\n\u2022released $7,218, or 1.5 mills, to the Bellwood Fire Dept. for its annual contribution.<br \/>\n\u2022appointed council member Tom Lechner to the Bellwood Borough Authority for a 5-year term.<br \/>\n\u2022renewed the borough\u2019s contract with the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society.<br \/>\n\u2022discussed the development of a Storm Water Management Control ordinance, as required by the state. According to Waite, the borough must develop this ordinance within five years.
