Coming off two lopsided losses in their own holiday tournament, BA coach Nick Lovrich and his squad knew that a win over Bald Eagle was a must, and they did exactly what they needed to do as the girls picked up the 61-49 victory on Saturday.<br \/>\n\u201cThis game was really important for us even though it was a non-conference game,\u201d said Lovrich. \u201cWe needed to get back on the winning track, and the girls really came out focused today.\u201d<br \/>\n Bellwood did indeed come out focused as they jumped out to a 9-0 lead. The Lady Eagles fought back and made the game respectable as the first quarter ended 13-8 in favor of BA. The second quarter ended in a near draw as the Lady Blue Devils took a 27-23 lead into the locker room.<br \/>\n\u201cI was proud of the way we started,\u201d Lovrich added. \u201cThey did a nice job to battle back, but I think our quick start really set the tone for the game.\u201d The Lady Blue Devils began the third quarter scrapping with Bald Eagle, and both teams finished the quarter with 12 points each, making the score 39-35 after three. The Lady Blue Devils then used a strong 4th quarter performance to put away the Lady Eagles and make the final score 61-49. BA improved to 6-4 on the year. Bellwood posted four different players in double figures to aid in the win.<br \/>\nAfter playing a 12-12 third quarter, the Lady Blue Devils turned it up a notch to insure the Bald Eagle Area girls couldn\u2019t get back into the game outscoring the Lady Eagles 22-14 to win going away.<br \/>\nKatie Gardner led all scorers with 19 points and eight rebounds. Stephanie Hatch had a big game as well, chipping in 13 points, nine rebounds, and seven blocks. Rachel Meredith netted 12, and Ashley Edevane scored 10 and dished out six assists.<br \/>\n\u201cI was most pleased with the fact that we had four girls score in double figures,\u201d said Lovrich. \u201cIf we can get three or four people in double figures each game then we should be in good shape.\u201d<br \/>\nBald Eagle Area, who fell to 1-11, was led by DeFrate and Lyle with 11 points each.<br \/>\nThe Bellwood Lady Blue Devils return to action on Monday with a Juniata Valley League opponent as they travel to Southern Huntingdon. JV tipoff is at 6:30 with Varsity to follow at 8.<br \/>\nThe Bellwood-Antis Lady Blue Devil Junior Varsity squad picked up a 38-22 win over Bald Eagle Area.
