I called it pretty snow this morning, even while I was driving my four wheel drive down Cresson Mountain on pavement that seemed go untouched by PENNDOT\u2019s trucks. I guess referring to it as \u201cpretty snow\u201d is my way of dealing with the harsh winter that has hit the north east this year. I\u2019m usually in Florida by now, but that has also been put aside due to other obligations. The streets and roads in and our of Tyrone were better this morning as crews seemed to be prepared for this new storm. Delays for the school districts turned into cancellations for the day based on the fact that more snow is arriving this afternoon and this weekend.
\nThe old Herald office is nothing but a memory now as our move and clean up is complete. While in the old building for a few minutes yesterday I could still sense the history of the newspaper even while looking at dirty corners and walls.
\nI was glad that our newspaper was able to share the goals of Tyrone\u2019s Mayor Pat Stoner as she looks forward to starting and finishing projects in 2003. Thanks for sharing and giving all the residents details of where this community can head in the future.
\nI thought of an idea this week and shared it with some friends and neighbors in business in Tyrone. Could Groundhog Day be held in Tyrone the same as it is in Punxsutawney? As a former member of the \u201cInner Circle\u201d of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club I learned the in\u2019s and out\u2019s of working on this unofficial holiday for ten years. I had unique experiences of leading crowds of 50,000 and the opportunity of being doing live TV with the folks from the \u201cToday Show, Good Morning America and many others. It was fun and always broke up the long winters!! My new concept however was, could \u201cTyrone Tom\u201d be created and be billed as Pennsylvania\u2019s official groundhog forecasting the weather for just the Keystone State instead of the world? Could this be something that would draw people to this community like it does up north? I really thought this through this week as many people have done in other Pennsylvania communities around February second. Maybe I was bored, maybe I\u2019m sick of winter, and maybe I need to stop thinking so much. As I was just putting my finishing touches on a proposal to give to the Tyrone Chamber of Commerce. I got a frantic sounding phone call! A friend and fellow \u201cInner Circle\u201d member had gotten wind of my thoughts and wanted to let me know that a bounty would be put on my head if I attempted to somehow steal the concept in some way. While it was a fun and friendly warning I couldn\u2019t help but sense the seriousness in his voice. I have know dropped the thoughts and moved on to other ideas. Tyrone Tom? Hmmm! Imagine the possibilities!
