\u201cWe have been working on the pressure defense a lot,\u201d said B-A boys basketball coach Tim Keech following his team\u2019s demolition of Glendale 67-41 on Friday night. \u201cWe\u2019re trying to get out the gate and extend the pressure right up the floor. I think the kids like to play that way and it gives them confidence and we can get a couple early turnovers. The confidence builds and builds and that really helps us in a full-court game.\u201d
\nThe Blue Devils came out of the shute in a hurry. Ryan Myers hit a pair of foul shots and three buckets, Steve Crider added a pair of baskets and Ricky Shannon, Shawn Weiand and Nate Carlson chipped in a basket each as Bellwood-Antis jumped out to a 16-2 first-quarter advantage.
\nWeiand kept a hot hand knocking down three more baskets, Crider and Brent Hughes each fired in a trey from three-point land and Paul Greiner contributed four points as the pressure \u201cD\u201d enabled the Blue Devils quick points to stretch their lead to 40-12 at the half.
\nKeech called off the Blue Devils midway through the third period when they eased the press a bit and the reserves saw considerable action over the final quarter and a half.
\n\u201cEverybody had a hand in it tonight,\u201d Keech informed. \u201cWe dressed 12 guys and 10 out of the 12 scored. I can\u2019t be unhappy with that. Ryan Myers had another big night. Stevie Crider was also in double figures, it was good to see him shoot the ball well. Ricky Shannon had nine points so he\u2019s almost there (double figures in scoring) And then we had an eight (Shawn Weiand) and a lot of guys scored and a lot of guys contributed. That\u2019s what we need-guys who know even if they step out on the floor for two or three minutes to give a starter a break, they play hard and they maintain what we are trying to do. That is really going to help us down the line.\u201d
\nNate Carlson, Paul Greiner, Jake Mattern and Matt Rogers were just a few of the guys who carried Bellwood through the fourth quarter to secure the Blue Devils\u2019 fifth victory in as many games in the early going of the 2002-03 season.
\nRyan Myers led both teams in scoring with 18 points and pulled down a team-high six rebounds. Steve Crider netted 13 points, Ricky Shannon had nine and Shawn Weiand added eight.
\nShawn Krestar led the Glendale Vikings with 13 points and Bill Peoples added 12.
\nThe Blue Devils don\u2019t get any time to rest on their laurels. They host the Bishop Guilfoyle Marauders tonight at the B-A Senior High gym. Junior varsity action will begin at 6 p.m. with the varsity game to follow.

\nGlendale won the junior varsity prelim 41-24.
\nBellwood-Antis was cold from the field with the exception of one streak during the third quarter when the Blue Devils scored 11 straight points to go in front 20-19 after trailing 19-9.
\nGlendale shut Bellwood down for much of the remainder of the game however outscoring B-A 22-4 after that hot streak.
\nMatt Plummer led the Blue Devils with 10 points and seven rebounds, Aaron Bell had six points and Paul Greiner pulled down nine rebounds.
\nGlendale placed three in double digits led by Mark Lyons with 13 points, Shane Krestar had 11 and Mark Yeckley added 10.
