For those of you who have a little trouble getting into the Christmas spirit, here\u2019s a little incentive to help you off the Laz-E-Boy and onto a ladder or roof with a string of lights in hand.
\nBeginning Dec. 16 and continuing through Dec. 23, a group of three Christmas decorating-loving community folk will be out and judging decor on homes around the community.
\n\u201cWe\u2019ve come such a long way with this contest,\u201d said Darlene Cupp, organizer of Yuletyme Tyrone\u2019s Fourth Annual Ye Olde House Decorating Contest. \u201cFour years ago, we were just looking at doors. Now, we\u2019re taking the whole property into consideration.\u201d
\nAccording to Cupp, to be eligible for one of three hand-crafted items by local artisan Mary Lou Calderwood, contestants must complete a form which includes name, address and phone number. There is a form inside today\u2019s edition of The Daily Herald and they are also available at the Tyrone Chamber of Commerce office on Logan Avenue.
\n\u201cWe need people to register so we can be sure they are home when we\u2019re judging,\u201d said Cupp. \u201cWe ask for their phone numbers so we can call before we show up. We need the address so we know we\u2019re judging the right home.\u201d

\n\u201cWe\u2019re really excited about this year\u2019s contest,\u201d said Cupp. \u201cSince we started this contest four years ago, it has grown. Although we haven\u2019t seen the numbers participating like we would like, we feel it\u2019s growing and would like to see dozens participate.\u201d
\nAccording to Cupp, there were just four entries last year.
\n\u201cI\u2019m surprised more people don\u2019t enter,\u201d said Cupp. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t cost a thing to participate.\u201d
\nThe homes will be judged based on three criteria: overall appearance, quantity of original material used and how much effort was put into the decorating.
\n\u201cAnybody can go out and buy a plastic Santa Claus and put it in front of their home,\u201d said Cupp. \u201cThat\u2019s fine, but we\u2019re looking for something more interesting.
\n\u201cLast year, one lady went out and purchased real Crow\u2019s Feet and fresh fruit and vegetables to decorate her home with. It was tremendous.\u201d
\nCommittee members have decided to keep the same amount of winning places in 2002. The wooden lawn ornaments that will be awarded are made in the forms of an angel, a star and a snowman.
