{"id":47730,"date":"2002-12-03T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2002-12-03T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tyronepa.com\/v3\/?p="},"modified":"2002-12-03T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2002-12-03T00:00:00","slug":"Tree-of-Light-illuminated-at-Tyrone-Hospital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tyronepa.com\/?p=47730","title":{"rendered":"Tree of Light illuminated at Tyrone Hospital"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dozens braved the cold, cruel hand of Mother Nature last evening to attend the Tyrone Hospital Development Council\u2019s second annual lighting of The Tree of Light at the hospital.<br \/>\n\u201cThis is a reflection of this community\u2019s shared past, in that it is a ray of hope for the entire community\u201d said THDC chairman Randy Miles Sr. to open the ceremony.<br \/>\nThe Tree of Light project was developed by Miles and his committee a couple years ago. The vision has always been the same \u2013 to help raise money to help defray costs that involve improvements to the hospital.<br \/>\nThis year\u2019s money will be used to ready an area for the installation of a new CT scanner in the main building of the hospital. Currently, the machine rests in a building yards away from the main hospital facility.<br \/>\nDonations this year have been received by both businesses and individuals. Miles said numerous businesses in the Tyrone area have pitched in an developed their own means of raising funds for the project, including a \u201cdress down\u201d day at Tyrone High School and smaller Trees of Light in businesses such as Kelly Wike\u2019s State Farm Insurance Office, DelGrosso\u2019s and Tyrone Medical Associates.<br \/>\nDonations have been and will continue to be accepted at these businesses and at Tyrone Hospital. A $5 bill will get you a paper angel that can be personalized with the name of a loved one, either living or deceased. This angel will then be placed on a tree inside the hospital\u2019s lobby.<br \/>\n\u201cThe Tree of light does give the Tyrone Community an opportunity to remember those loved ones that have left us and those who are still living who support are hospital,\u201d said Judy Norris, chairman of the Tyrone Hospital Board of Directors. \u201cThis is the perfect to honor and remember these people that we hold so dear in our hearts.\u201d<br \/>\nFollowing a spiritual meesage by keynote speaker Pastor Terryann Talbot-Moses, she blessed the tree and pushed the buttons illuminating the small pine.<br \/>\n\u201cThis is the season we pause and give thanks,\u201d said hospital Chief Executive Officer Thomas Bartlett. \u201cAnd we give thanks to you, the community. The most important thing going for Tyrone Hospital is the support the community has given. Without that support, it would be very difficult to operate as efficiently as we do.\u201d<br \/>\nJust prior to the illumination of the tree, Karen Mayhew\u2019s choral class at St. Matthews School sang three Christmas-oriented songs.<br \/>\nAccording to Miles, the fundraiser opened a few months ago, but numbers will not be official until after the new year.
