The month-long celebration has caught on within the community the past three years and people are looking forward to the events that will take place.
The first event for the community to enjoy, the ‘Tree of Light’ ceremony, will be held on Monday, December 2 at 6 p.m. The ceremony will take place in the main lobby of the Tyrone Hospital. Those wishing to have an angel ornament or a light placed on the tree in honor of persons living, or in memory of deceased loved ones, can do so by making a donation of $5. Contact the hospital for a gift form.
Mayor Pat Stoner is looking forward to Yuletyme Tyrone 2002, and was pleased with all the people who have assisted in making the event possible.
“I found this year there were a lot of people stepping forward wanting to be a part,” said Stoner. “Some of the clubs and organizations have taken over different phases of it.”
The Tyrone Community Partnership is going to handle the Soup Tasting Contest on December 5 from 4-6 p.m. Rose Black will continue her excellent work with organizing the Yuletyme Parade downtown, which also takes place December 5 at 6:30 p.m.
“By spreading it out like that, not only does it get more people in the community involved, but it makes it much easier instead of having a couple of people organize it all,” noted Stoner.
She added, “I’m all for getting the community involved.”
The calendar of events for Yuletyme Tyrone 2002 is available to inform everyone about all the Christmas activities that are taking place in the community. The list of events is quite similar to a countdown to Christmas day, with the events ending on Christmas Eve at a person’s preferred house of worship for a candlelight service.
Stoner urges the community to post the calendar of events on their refrigerator or elsewhere so everyone knows when and where the activities are happening.
“A lot of hard work will go into all of these activities and we want to make sure that the community has the opportunity to support it,” said Stoner.
Some of the more popular events in the past Yuletyme Tyrone activities include the parade, by which children and adults look forward to yearly, the lighting of the community Christmas tree, which has been done for the past four years, and the animated windows have been favorites of the community.
But, all the things that bring excitement to the Christmas season are pleasing for not only the children, but adults also.
Yuletyme Tyrone 2002 will be offering something new for the community to participate in. On December 22 from 2-5 p.m., there will be church tours for those who wish to view our beautiful and historic churches in Tyrone and experience the true meaning of Christmas.
“We’ve had people request church tours because we have so many historic churches in town, and at Christmas time they’re so beautiful,” said Stoner. “The ministries have been very helpful in agreeing to set a day and time to tour the churches, and they’re handling all of that for us.”
Stoner continued, “Again, it’s all a result of the community coming together and community effort to make it happen. It’s sort of become a tradition and I hope it just goes on and on and on.”
After the Yuletyme Parade on December 5, there will be the usual cookies and hot chocolate for the kids at the Tyrone Armory. Members of the Tyrone Community Partnership are going to be visible downtown during the parade with hot chocolate and other items somewhere near the City Hotel Park.
“I know that everyone in the community appreciates the hard work that some people put into bringing these things about, so I would encourage the community to come out and support not only your community, but also the Christmas season,” stated Stoner.
Please take the time to thank all those people who are involved with making Yuletyme Tyrone 2002 special and possible.

Yuletyme Tyrone Calendar of Events
December 2, 2002-6 p.m. – Tree of Light Ceremony – Main lobby, Tyrone Hospital – Tree to be illuminated at 6 p.m. Those wishing to have an angel ornament or a light placed on the tree in honor of persons living, or in memory of deceased loved ones, can do so by making a donation of $5.
