The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is introducing a new service to its menu of Driver and Vehicle Online Services.
\nWith the introduction of \u2018Change of Address,\u2019 customers can now update their address on their personal Pennsylvania Driver\u2019s License, Photo Identification (ID) Card, Learner\u2019s Permit and vehicle registration(s) over the Internet. This service is in addition to the photo driver license\/photo identification card\/vehicle registration renewals and driver history services that are currently available online.
\nThis alternative method of updating driver and vehicle address records is fast, convenient and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There are no fees for online change of address transactions. All that is required is access to a computer with an Internet connection, a printer and a personal identification number (PIN).
\nA printer will provide a Temporary Internet \u2018Address Change Only\u2019 Credential, that should be carried with current credentials until a new product is received in the mail. A PIN is a number assigned to an individual to conduct online service transactions and prevent unauthorized access to information.
\nJoan Nissley, Media Spokesperson for PennDOT, stated that customers will be eager to use the new service. \u201cIt\u2019s a very quick service, rather than coming into a PennDOT location. People can do it anytime that\u2019s convenient for them – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week,\u201d said Nissley.
\nCustomers wanting to change their Pennsylvania Driver\u2019s License, Learner\u2019s Permit or ID Card address will need to know their date of birth, driver\u2019s license (learner\u2019s permit or ID) number and social security number. Vehicle registration address changes, in addition to the above information, require the title number and registration plate number of the vehicle record being updated.
\nThe new online service is convenient for the customers as well as for PennDOT. \u201cIf there\u2019s less customers at the counter, then there\u2019s also less wait time for the customers. It will speed up the service for the customers and likewise reduce any lines there would be at a driver license center,\u201d said Nissley.
\nPennDOT has taken steps to ensure that confidential customer information is secure online and has enhanced its level of security by requiring the user to provide the last four digits of his or her social security number. This information, combined with the user\u2019s Pennsylvania Driver\u2019s License, Learner\u2019s Permit or ID card number, date of birth, and PIN number will authenticate the user.
\nNissley stated, \u201cThe new service was implemented August of this year and as of September 13, we did approximately 1,000 changes of address for customers. We debuted all five of our online services (vehicle renewal, driver license renewal, ID card renewal, driver history and change of address) in May of 2001, and since then, with all of the services combined, we\u2019ve done over 820,000 transactions.\u201d
\nShe added, \u201cCustomers across the Commonwealth are definitely using our online services, and now that change of address is available, that\u2019ll be a popular option as well.\u201d
\nPennsylvania requires that you report any new address to PennDOT within 15 days of moving. This would apply to all driver and vehicle service documents and credentials including driver licenses\/ID\u2019s, learner\u2019s permits and vehicle registration cards.
\nOnline change of address allows individuals to change their address for where they vote while changing their driver\u2019s license, photo ID, or learner\u2019s permit address. By changing your voter registration address online, the Department of State is notified. They will notify the county where you were registered so that your registration record can be forwarded to the new county of residence.
\nThe new service is not available for commercial driver\u2019s license (CDL) holders. CDL license holders must complete an \u2018Application to Replace\/Correct Commercial Driver\u2019s License\u2019 (Form DL-80CD) and submit to PennDOT.
