The idea of driving away from Gray-Veterans Memorial Field with a brand new car doesn\u2019t sound half bad, and now the possibility is there.
\nThe Daily Herald, WTRN and Stultz and Brown Ford Mercury are giving you the opportunity to do that with the first $20,000 Punt, Pass and Kick contest.
\nHere is how it works. You register either at the Stultz and Brown dealership or at the gate as you enter Gray-Veterans Memorial Field prior to every home football game. At halftime, one person will be selected and qualified for the drawing at Halftime of every Tyrone home football game. Four finalists will be chosen, one from each home game, leading into the last home game of the season.
\nAt the October 5th game one of the four selected will have a shot at a new car courtesy of Stultz and Brown Ford Mercury.
\n\u201dFirst we want to thank Stultz and Brown, The Tyrone School District, the Tyrone YMCA and WTRN for joining forces with us on this exciting contest,\u201d said Daily Herald General Manager Chris Lash. \u201cEveryone has a chance with a one dollar donation to punt as far as they can from the back line of the end zone, then from where the punt lands, pass as far as they can, and then from that mark, kick a field goal to win a $20,000 car from Stultz and Brown. It\u2019s really not that hard, and the previous three times I was involved with this contest, we had two winners of brand new vehicles\u201d.
\nProceeds from the contest will benefit the Tyrone Area YMCA.
\n\u201cThis takes the contest to another level, said Lash. \u201cEvery dollar donated will go to benefit the save the \u201cY\u201d campaign. It\u2019s our way of helping give back to the YMCA and all that it means to the community\u201d.
\nThe complete rules and regulations will be on file at The Daily Herald offices at 1018 Pennsylvania Avenue, Tyrone and will be posted on the registration tables.
\nFollowing the Pius X game, one lucky person will start under one goalpost and punt the ball as far as they can. The ball will be marked. The second phase is pass the ball as far as they can. The ball will be marked. The lucky person will attempt a field goal from the mark. If the ball sails through the uprights, the keys to a new car will be handed over.
\nBeing a former street football player, I figured I would give it a try. In a pair of jean shorts, a polo shirt and sneakers, I punted the ball 45 yards. Then I threw the ball 40 yards which left me a 35 yard field goal attempt. With Mark Mitchell holding, I kicked the ball through the uprights and completed the task. Employees of The Daily Herald, Stultz and Brown, WTRN or the Tyrone YMCA and their families are not eligible to win.
