Thanksgiving is a time to stop and reflect on all the things we are thankful for. Some have more to be thankful for than others. But this Thanksgiving, several area volunteers will share their time on Thanksgiving Day to provide homemade meals for others.
\nOnce again, DJ\u2019s Cafe in Tyrone will be offering free Thanksgiving meals to area residents on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 27.
\nOver the past several years, this tradition has grown and is now an annual event for the staff and volunteers at DJ\u2019s.
\nWhen they first began six years ago, volunteers started out preparing 100 meals. That number more than quadrupled and over 475 meals were prepared for individuals within the community last year.
\nAll the meals are cooked on-site and are delivered, free of charge, to individuals and families. The volunteers provide not only a hot meal, but also companionship to those who may otherwise not have the opportunity to share this thankful day with others.
\nFor those who prefer, families are also invited to join together at DJ\u2019s where they can sit down and enjoy the home cooked meal with others, served by the staff.
\nThis year\u2019s Thanksgiving meal includes: roasted turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, candied yams, corn, cranberry sauce, roll and butter, dessert and milk.
\nTo order a meal, call 684-7851. Organizers ask that interested individuals call in advance to request a delivery time. Someone will be available to take calls Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Orders will be delivered from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thanksgiving day.
\nInterested individuals can also stop by DJ\u2019s Cafe, located at 2068 Columbia Avenue, in Tyrone.
\nThis free Thanksgiving meal and those individuals who prepare and deliver it are such an asset to this community. To help keep this tradition alive, consider making a donation. All types of donations are appreciated, whether it be a monetary gift, grocery store gift certificate or a food item that can be used to prepare this special meal.
