The Tyrone girls softball team traveled to Alexandria on Monday afternoon, to meet Juniata Valley, in a non-league tilt.
\nIf you take away a five-run third inning, this was a close contest, with the Lady Hornets holding a 2-1 advantage. However, the Juniata Valley girls pushed across a five-spot in the bottom of the third to take a 7-1 triumph.
\nThe Lady Eagles scored their solo tally in the top of the fourth. Teanna Kobuck scored from second on a single by Paris Harden.
\nJuniata Valley kept a constant pressure on the Tyrone girls, leaving 10 runners on base.
\n\u201cWe were able to get out of a bases-loaded jam twice with only a run scoring,\u201d said Tyrone coach Lois Loncher. \u201cWe played much better than we have in the past with runners on base.\u201d
\nJenna Morgan and Kara Boyd combined for Juniata Valley on the mound, limiting the Lady Eagles to three singles.
\nIn addition to Harden\u2019s base hit, Amber Miller and Ariane Miller each had one single.
\nMara Belinda drove in two runs for the Lady Hornets, and Boyd, with two singles, was the only player on either team to total more than one hit.
\nAriane Miller tossed a complete game for the Lady Eagles, striking out three and walking five, while yielding six hits.
\nUp next for the Tyrone girls softball team (0-8) is a home game today against Mountain League foe Penns Valley. The first pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
