The Colonel Crowther Foundation is delighted to announce the schedule for infantry and artillery demonstrations to take place Saturday, August 2 and Sunday August 3.
These demonstrations, part of the activities for Colonel Crowther Day Weekend, will be presented in the small field at the upper part of Reservoir Park in Tyrone.
Many people are wondering if the ice cream truck will interrupt the demonstration of civil war infantry maneuvers again this year.
The Keystone Regiment’s Infantry Unit, reenacting Company A of the 110th Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers, will demonstrate marching and rifle firing. They will be joined by members of other military units that are present.
Demonstrations are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
When you hear a loud bang during the weekend it is likely the result of firing the cannon.
The Keystone Regiment’s Battery D, Tyrone Artillery will demonstrate the military practices that are used to prepare and fire a civil war cannon.
Their cannon is a full scale 1861 3 inch Ordnance Rifle.
When used in battle this field piece could fire different types of shells. The types of shells used and their purpose are explained during the demonstration.
Artillery demonstrations are scheduled for 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
