The Howard Gardner American Legion Post No. 281 and Anderson-Denny VFW Post No. 4559 will once again present a Memorial Day program to remember and honor fallen comrades, both past and present.
The Birmingham Presbyterian Church welcomes everyone to a special service of remembrance on Sunday, May 25 during morning worship service at 10:30 a.m.
Following the morning worship service, a special ceremony will be held at the Birmingham Cemetery where the congregation will join with the Tyrone American Legion in honoring those who gave their lives in the service of this country.
At 11:30 a.m. a special luncheon will be held at the Legion.
Memorial services will then be held at 1 p.m. at Baughman Cemetery, at Bald Eagle Cemetery at 1:40 p.m. and at Tyrone Colonial Courtyard at 2:30 p.m.
The programs at the cemeteries will consist of a welcome message from Junior Vice Commander of the American Legion, Jim Baughman.
The National Anthem will be played and Jack Swiderski, VFW, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
A musical selection will be performed by Dave Kaup and Pastor Paul Bottenfield of the Birmingham Presbyterian Church will give the invocation.
Also, the Gettysburg Address by Nick Leasure, VFW and GAR service with Commander Jim Baughman, American Legion; 1st Comrade Bob Nein, American Legion; 2nd Comrade Bob Grazier, American Legion and 3rd Comrade Charlie Boyd, VFW.
The Honor Guard consists of (rifles): Fred Zanghi, American Legion; Sonny Weber, SAL; Rick Maceno, SAL; John Brodzina, American Legion; William Moses, American Legion and Floyd Garman, VFW and (flag bearers): Fred Forsythe, American Legion; Steve Sellers, American Legion and Rodger Couch, VFW.
Taps will be played by Chip Dillon of the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company with the conclusion by Jim Baughman.
A special Memorial Day service at Soldier’s Park in Tyrone, will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday.
The service will be similar to those on the previous day.
There will also be presentation of wreaths and special guest speaker this year is Colonel George Lake III, USMC (retired).
The benediction will be given by Pastor Paul Bottenfield.
Prior to the Memorial Day service, veterans and military personnel will visit Oak Grove Cemetery.
Other events on Monday include the Bellwood-Antis Memorial Day parade, which is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. It is sponsored this year by the United Veterans Home Association in Bellwood.
