Mrs. Alice G. Smith, age 91, a guest at Epworth Manor, Tyrone and formerly of Washington, PA died Friday, July 25, 2008 at 11:20 a.m. at the Manor. She was born March 2, 1917 in Washington, PA, the daughter of Walter and Hattie Noble Grassel. On August 16, 1937 in Cumberland, MD she was married to George E. Smith who preceded her in death in August 2001. She is survived by three sons, Robert K. (Joan) Smith of Warriors Mark, David W. (Marilyn) Smith of Brownsville, PA and William R. (Laura) Smith of Brooksville, FL; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Grassel who was killed in World War II, two sisters – Gladys Oliver and Anna Brown, and a great-granddaughter, Rachel Houck.
She was a member of Fairhill Manor Christian Church, Washington, PA, a lifetime member and past matron of Lincoln Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star of Washington. She had been employed by Caldwell’s Department Store and the Annex Pharmacy in Washington, PA. Alice was a homemaker and an avid bridge player.
Funeral service for Alice G. Smith will be Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Epworth Personal Care Chapel, South Lincoln Avenue, Tyrone with Chaplain Rich McCahan and Chaplain Adam Kravitz officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the Chapel for one hour prior to the funeral service. Arrangements are under the direction of the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc.
