Tyrone swimmers made a very positive impact at the Penn State Natatorium, on Friday and Saturday at the District 6-9 Swim Meet.
Tyrone senior Ethan Nulton qualified for two events at the PIAA State Meet to lead the way. Nulton swam a:57.32 in the 100 backstroke to finish second, and a 1:50.32 in the 200 freestyle to finish third. Both were new school records. Nulton qualified in the backstroke with the top two going on to the state meet in each event and qualified for the 200 free, by virtue of his time being one of the best in the entire state.
The boys 200 medley relay team of Nulton, Allen Hosko, Dustin Elder and Ian McGregor lowered the school record by nearly two and a half seconds with a time of 1:47.63. Allen Hosko finished ninth in the 100 breaststroke, but broke a school record that had lasted since 1994, with a 1:08.51 time.
“We had an awesome weekend with all swimmers lowering their times and set four new school records in the 200 medley relay, the 100 back, 200 free and the 100 breast,” said a very elated Tyrone swim coach Tom Getz. “Ethan Nulton qualified for states in two events, which has not been done in Tyrone swimming in some time, if ever?? (qualifying for 2 events). One by placing second in the 100 backstroke and the other by swimming one of the fastest times in the state in the 200 free. The 100 breaststroke record that Hosko broke has stood since 1994!
“These kids worked their tails off all season and especially the last few weeks leading up to districts. I don’t think I can put into words what they accomplished and how proud I am of them! Furthermore….when you look at this group we brought to districts, only three of them are seniors (Nulton, Ian McGregor and Kelly Pearson) which is a promising outlook for Tyrone Swimming.”
Kegan Fink, Elder, McGregor and Nulton were fourth in the 200 freestyle relay, Hosko was 11th in the 100 freestyle and 12th in the 50 freestyle.
On the Lady Eagles side, the 200 medley relay team of Kelly Pearson, Christina Brisbin, Salena Bradigan and Brittany Day was eighth, and the 200 freestyle relay team of Chynna Beisel, Abby Cowfer, Pearson and Day finished 10th. Beisel was 10th in both the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle.
Rick Day and Evan Lewis also participated at Districts.
The boys team finished fifth place of 15 at districts, which is great…the girls were 13th of 16 which is very respectable considering the Lady Eagles only had six swimmers in the meet.
