Kristin Barrett began her managing career when she was just 17-years-old when she started at Burger King in Tyrone.
Since then, she has stayed in retail and remains there as she is the current manager at Gardner’s Candies in Tyrone.
For the past 13 years, Barrett has worked at Gardner’s, and in 2000, she became the manager of the store.
“It’s a very friendly workplace,” Barrett spoke of Gardner’s. “Everyone treats me great here, and it’s like a second home to me.”
When Barrett is away from Gardner’s, she is the Treasurer for the Tyrone Merchants Association, which promotes the businesses in Tyrone. She has played a key role in the Association and is also a part of the Tyrone Irish Heritage Committee.
Kristin is married with two children. She has been married to Rick Barrett for 19 years now and has two sons, Brice and Seth. They reside in Sinking Valley, but everyone can find her at the hockey rink at Reservoir Park watching her boys play roller hockey.
“The opportunities for the kids are very important, and I think in the past few years Tyrone has really improved upon these things. There are several areas of interest available to the local people in Tyrone if you just get out and look around.”
Barrett has served her community well with her dedication to Gardner’s and the time put into making Tyrone a better place. She will always have a smile on her face when she works at Gardner’s, and it always seems like a friendly environment when visiting the store.
“I look at Gardner’s as a fun place for friends and family from all over to have ice cream and candy when they visit Tyrone. We enjoy everyone’s company at the store and try to make it feel like home for the little time you’re here at Gardner’s. The atmosphere of our store is fun, friendly and is a stress-free environment.
“I wouldn’t change anything, if I had to do it over again,” said Barrett.
