Grants were awarded to two local organizations in ceremonies held recently at the Blair County Courthouse, Hollidaysburg.
Receiving checks locally were Tyrone Community Players and Joshua House.
Commissioner Donna Gority noted that the grant money is realized from the lease of Lakemont Park which specifies money be awarded for parks and recreation.
Tyrone Community Players was awarded a $4,870 grant for amplification and lighting equipment to replace items destroyed by flooding in its building, the former Elks Lodge, on Logan Avenue. On hand for the presentation were Commissioners Barry Wright and Donna Gority with Patricia Stoner representing the Players.
Also, Jessica Knowlden, Administrative Assistant at Joshua House, accepted a check of $5,000 to be used for the basketball court at its Tenth Street location. The check was for paving of a basketball court at Joshua House. They have one in-ground hoop purchased and will purchase a second hoop this spring.
In all, eight grants were awarded at the ceremony.
Eldorado Kiwanis Club presented a check to Blair County Children and Youth’s special fund to help with Christmas and with children in their care all year-round. This covers items that can’t be paid for by government funds and families can’t afford (such as class rings, prom dresses, summer camp, etc.). Maryanne Burger, Director of Children and Youth, accepted the check from Jim Ellis of the Eldorado Kiwanis Club with the Commissioners on hand. |
