This year’s annual Tyrone Area Community Day scheduled on Friday, August 1 at DelGrosso’s Amusement Park, has potential to be the best community picnic yet.
There will be special events and prizes for all Tyrone area residents to win, and all of Tyrone area youth are invited to ride and slide for free. This includes all pre-school, elementary, junior and senior high school youth (through 2008 graduates) in the Tyrone area.
The special events throughout the day will include: a Tyrone Talent Search, chicken barbecue, Tyrone community raffle and a mini-golf tournament.
The Joshua House looks to kick things off this year with a Champion Mini-golf Tournament at 10 a.m., which is open to youth in Kindergarten through 12th grades.
There are three different age groups for the tournament: K-5, 6-8 and 9-12 grades.
From 10:30 a.m. until 6 p.m., Albemarle will present the ride pass distribution. This includes all day ride and slide passes to Tyrone’s youth. Residents may find the stand at the Red and White Tent adjoining Pavilion No. 3.
At 2 p.m., the children will have a chance to compete for prizes in Pavilion No. 3. Kids will see how long they can last in the hula-hoop contest and see how smelly their feet are in the smelly sneaker contest. There will be many more games at the pavilion, so don’t forget to bring your children down for some fun and games.
From 4 to 4:30 p.m., Status dance team will perform at Midway by Murf’s Kitchen.
Dance Fusion will pick up the second half of the dancing from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., as they will perform on the main stage beside the pavilions.
Things will settle down a bit from 5 to 6:30 p.m. as residents are invited to a chicken barbecue. Advance tickets will be available at the Tyrone Chamber, Daily Herald and Gardners Candies July 7. Don’t miss out on the great meal!
Have a special talent? Show off your tricks or talents at the Tyrone Talent Search around 6 p.m. A special prize will be given to the winner of the show.
The divisions for the show are: Pre-school-4 grade, 5-8 grade, 9-12 grade, adult-39 and 40 and over.

“For more than 150 years, Tyrone has been a community thriving on the collaboration of citizens. Our annual picnic celebration is our way of thanking and recognizing the hard work and efforts of all of you. We are looking forward to spending a wonderful day of summer fun, delicious foods, and entertainment, but mostly fun with you all,” added all the members of the 2008 TACP Committee.
