The Tyrone Junior Varsity volleyball team was up bright and early Saturday morning and traveled over to Philipsburg for the annual Jen Marcinko Volleyball Tournament.
Tyrone guided by new head coach Jim Cushion and Charley O’Rourke, took 18 girls to play four two-game matches against the likes of Bellwood Antis, Huntingdon, West Branch and BEA.
The girls stood up to all the teams but came up short in all their games.
The highlight game of the day was a thrilling match vs. Huntingdon which they lost both games by a 25-20 score,
“The girls had a lot of fun and we tried to play everyone in all positions to get a better feel for the game and each other,” stated Cushion.
Tyrone had outstanding efforts from Rebecca Fry in her first action of the season as a setter and gutsy efforts from Ariane Miller and Kassie Gardner. Paris Harden and Kristen Gearhart provided leadership and Suzanne Zimmerman showed off her ferocious serve in the tourney. Jess Thomas was steady as was Chelsey Hook and Vernica  Detwiler. Chantelle Barndt, Jess Hoffman Cassandra Kasic, Tiffany Ross, Danielle Barto, Kathryn Davis, Taylor Patton, Kendra Noye, Clarissa Woomer, make up the rest of the Tyrone squad.
“We mixed the lineups up so it was hard to get continuity but it was a learning experience and I think we got better this weekend,” added Coach Cushion.
