On June 15 and 16 at 7:30 p.m., in the auditorium of the Tyrone Area High School, 50 area youngsters will create a jungle environment complete with exotic dancing plants, singing bushes, talking rocks, buzzing bees, a hissing snake, choreographed trees, marching elephants, jazzy monkeys, singing and dancing bears, panthers, tigers and a man-cub.
That is a full jungle indeed!
The Tyrone Community Players Children’s Theater Project is very proud to announce the first-of-its-kind production for the TCP where the youngest performers in the organization take the stage alone to perform this delightful musical from Disney.
This production is unique in many ways. The Disney organization has taken great pains to provide quality materials geared just for young participants. The scripts come complete with explanations of theater terms, a picture page for the performers’ photo memories, autograph pages and large print music and dialogue. Unlike other musicals, these scripts are purchased and the young actors may keep them aas a memento of their experience in the theater.
The script is written so that each child plays an important part in the telling of the story about the man-cub, Mowgli, portrayed by Eli Wood of Altoona, seen in the TCP production of SEUSSICAL as JoJo the young boy, left in the jungle and raised by wolves, and his best friends, the panther Bagheera played by Tyrone resident and TCP alumni Kathleen Beck and Baloo the bear, portrayed by TCP veteran R. J. Beck. In fact, all the jungle plants, bugs and animals act as the narrator for the story, keeping the audience up-to-date on what is happening inside The Jungle Book.
“This has been an extraordinary experience for everyone involved,” stated director for this production, Karen Mayhew. “The cast has worked very hard and the parents and families have been exceptionally supportive. Our hope is that families and area theater enthusiasts will make a huge effort to come to the show and support this positive effort being offered by the kids and the TCP.”
Tickets for this production can be obtained by phoning the ArtsLine at 684-ART2 or will be available at the door. All seating is general admission and the cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children.
The Children’s Theater Project is supported in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of PA, the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency and the Tyrone Borough.
