The Blair County Department of Solid Waste & Recycling and the Blair County Conservation District is currently hosting, “Yard Waste Tuesdays at the R&D” .
The Blair County Research & Demonstration Compost Facility in Duncansville will be open to the public on Tuesdays only. The site is located 1/2 mile south of the intersection of routes 22 and 220, on Old Route 220 South between Duncansville and Newry.
This site is used regularly by municipalities for their leaf and yard waste drop-offs, but, for a limited schedule only, the site is being opened for homeowners.
The R&D site will be open from noon to 6 p.m. each Tuesday, ending June 19.
There is no fee for dropping off grass clippings, leaves and other soft vegetation.
Drop-off fees charged for truckload quantities of brush, tree trimmings, etc. are: small pick-up – $4, standard pick-up – $5, dump truck – $10 and tandem/triaxle loads – $20.
There is no charge for brush brought in private automobiles in small quantities.
The site also will accept limited amounts of manure from production ag and hobby farmers. To schedule a manure drop-off, contact the Blair County Conservation District office at 696-0877, extension 113.
