“Run for our Youth” will be held Saturday, June 2 to benefit the Tyrone track and field and cross country programs as well as Joshua House.
Events for the day include a 10K run, 5K run/walk, “Run for the Gold” youth one mile race and a kids’ lollipop fun run.
Race day registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. The 10K and 5K races will begin at 9 a.m.
Pre-registration for the 10K and 5K races is $15 and must be postmarked by Saturday, May 26. Race day registration will be $17. Make checks payable to Tyrone Track Boosters and mail entries to Joshua House – PO Box 27 – Tyrone, Pa. 16686. The first 75 pre-registered runners will receive a T-shirt. Packets can be picked up on race day between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m.
The start and finish is located at the Tyrone Area High School. The course loop is relatively flat with one steep hill for about two blocks in the 10K run. During the 5K race there will be times given at the one and two mile markers. Times will be given at mile markers one through five during the 10K run. There will be water stops along the course for both races.
Male and female age groups will be set up for the 10K and 5K races. Groups will include 10 and under; 11-14; 15-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59 and 60 and up.
The “Run for the Gold” and lollipop races are free and will begin at 11 a.m. at the track.
The “Run for the Gold” youth one mile race commemorates “Emily Ingle Day”. Emily is the only female athlete from Tyrone to win a gold medal at the state level in any sport. This race is for youth ages 10 to 18 years of age. It is a one mile run, or four laps around the track. Medals to the top boy and girl finishers in each age group will be awarded. Age groups include: 10-11; 12-13; 24-25 and 16-18. Some groups may be combined, depending on the participation level.
The lollipop fun run will be divided into age groups, five and under; 6-7 and 8-9
