The Tyrone B.P.O. Elks announced their choices for Elks “Teenagers of the Month” for the months of March, April, and May.
Each student is presented with a plaque when receiving this award. They will also be honored at the Elks annual youth recognition banquet.
Award recipients for March are seniors Jordan DelBaggio and Megan Turiano.
Jordan is the daughter of Ed and Jody DelBaggio of Tyrone. Her school activities include Student Council, HOSA, National Honor Society, Gymnastics, Track, and French Club. Her activities out of school include gymnastics, an aide to a Physical Therapist, interior work on a new house, and decorating for the snowball. Special honors and awards that she has received include National Honor Society, High Honor Roll for grades 9-12, medalist in PIAA state gymnastics, lettering in track and gymnastics for grades 10-12, and receiving a 4.0 GPA. Jordan has worked at DelGrosso’s and the Bellwood Community Pool.
Megan is the daughter of Steve and Marie Turiano of Tyrone. Her school activities include basketball, softball, soccer, powderpuff, community outreach, clinical work at Epworth Manor, Tyrone Hospital, and Keystone Rehab. Her out of school activities include babyisttting and helping the elderly. Megan’s special honor includes High Honor Roll. She has worked as a babysitter, at the Sinking Valley Country Club, and at the Doghouse.
Award recipients for April are seniors Elizabeth Tepsic and James Updike.
Liz is the daughter of Kathleen and Austin Tepsic of Tyrone. Her school activities include Spanish Club, track and field, basketball, Key Club, National Honor Society for grades 7-12, National Honor Roll for grades 11 and 12, and was named to Who’s Who Among American High School Students. Special honors and awards include National Honor Society for grades 7-12, placing sixth in the triple jump at the PIAA State Track and Field Championships, and placing first in the triple jump and the 100 Meter Hurdles at the District 6 Track and Field Championships. Activities out of school include coaching at a basketball clinic each week, serving as a homecoming volunteer, community outreach, and reading to elementary students each week. Her work experience includes helping her grandparents with their housework, babysitting, and helping her parents with their housework. Liz is ranked fifth in her class.
James is the son of Chris and Carolyn Updike of Warriors Mark. His school activities include being a member of the varsity football team. Special honors that James has received includes being named First Team All-Conference Linebacker in 2006, First Team Altoona Mirror All-star Dream Team, and Pennsylvania Football News All-State Honorable Mention Linebacker. He has worked at DelGrosso’s and Showalter’s Landscaping.
Award recipients for May include seniors Michael Romano and Dan Stover.
Michael is the son of Kaye E. Romano and Michael A. Romano of Tyrone. School activities include participating on the TAHS baseball team since ninth grade. His out of school activities include fishing, basketball, and hanging out with friends. He has worked at Burger King and Save-A-Lot.
Dan is the son of Craig and Judy Stover of Port Matilda. His school activities include participating on the TAHS basketball team and Peer Jury in grades 10-12. Out of school activities include Boy Scouts and being elected to the Order of the Arrow Lodge in Boy Scouts. Dan’s special honors and awards include National Honor Society and receiving a State FFA Degree. He has worked at Stover Spring Farm and for the State College Spikes.
