State Police in Huntingdon provided updated information regarding a three vehicle accident that occurred along SR 453, approximately .5 miles south of Birmingham, on March 23.
The crash occurred when a freightliner tractor-trailer, driven by 34-year-old Frederick Bousum III of Alexandria, was traveling north on SR 453. Bousum failed to negotiate a right hand curve in the roadway and traveled into the southbound travel lane, striking a 1999 Ford F150 truck driven by 48-year-old John Barlett II of Tyrone. Barlett’s vehicle was traveling south and was struck on the left rear side of the vehicle and thrown onto the embankment, located on the western side of the roadway.
Bousum’s vehicle continued traveling northwest, crossing into the path of a third vehicle, a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica driven by Gregory Muri, 54, of Altoona, which was traveling south.
Muri’s car was struck on the right side by Bousum’s truck, which then struck and traveled over the western guide rail, coming to a rest hanging over the edge of the embankment.
Everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt.
Bousum and Barlett both received minor injuries and were transported to Tyrone Hospital for treatment. Muri, and a passenger, Barry Sward, 59, of Westover, were not injured.
Bousum and Barlett’s vehicles both received disabling damage. Muri’s car received minor damage.
Vehicles were towed by Runk’s and Dively’s Towing.
Local emergency personnel assisted at the scene.
On April 9, charges were filed against Bousum including driving under the influence of alcohol, driving on the right side of the roadway, driving on roadways laned for traffic, driving at safe speed, careless driving, reckless driving and unauthorized use of registration plate.
