USO…….We salute you…….
Throughout history, wars have been won and wars have been lost. However, the battle with uplifting the morale of our troops has been top priority for the USO, Salvation Army, and The Red Cross.
Amid the political rhetoric surrounding any conflict, lies the silent, forgotten heroes. As we reflect on these individuals, we are reminded of their courage and their sacrifice. One such individual proudly served his country and troops. Sgt. Morris Levine served as liaison for the troops both stateside and overseas. His tour of duty began February 2, 1942, and memories are brought to life while reviewing his many pictures of performers such as Fred Astaire, Bing Crosby, and The U.S. Army Band.
Levine (who opened The Morris Levine Shoe Store in 1945) credits his USO appointment to his years of experience with the original Tyrone Community Players. Levine, has always and still is an avid supporter of the arts, especially the Tyrone-based theater group.
On March 30 and 31, TCP will take center stage at The Tyrone American Legion, to pay tribute to the many men and women who boosted the morale of our troops. USO Tour is the third annual cabaret night hosted by TCP. Let the players take you back in time, with musical selections like Sing-Sing-Sing, Moonlight Serenade, Misty, God Bless America, and many more.
The American Legion Auxiliary will offer hors d’oeuvres, a pasta bar and dessert. Tickets are $16 and available at the Tyrone Chamber of Commerce, Alice’s Garden Florist, and the 684-ART2. Seating is limited.
Come and enjoy the evening, and be a part of something wonderful…TCP is looking forward to seeing you.
