The Tyrone Hospital emergency room now has access to three orthopedic surgeons for emergency orthopedic patients.
“This is another change that is positively affecting our emergency room and we want to be sure members of the community are aware,” said Al Godissart, Director of Outpatient Services at Tyrone Hospital.
Christopher S. McClellan, D.O joined the Tyrone Hospital medical staff more than a year ago. In the past several months, Jack F. Rocco, MD and William Andrew (Andy) Tyndall, MD, Ph.D also joined Tyrone Hospital. All three physicians are from University Orthopedics Center (UOC).
The orthopedic surgeons are on-call for the Tyrone Hospital emergency room on a rotating basis and also perform surgery at the hospital.
Rehabilitation services, physical and occupational therapy, are provided by ProCare at Tyrone Hospital to assist orthopedic patients with their recovery.
Mr. Godissart said about one quarter of the patients that visit Tyrone Hospital’s emergency room do so because of some type of orthopedic emergency. “People experience slips, trips, and falls in everyday life and that leads to broken bones and a trip to the emergency room.”
Other changes at the Tyrone Hospital emergency room include two new emergency room physicians, Pradip Swain, M.D. board certified emergency medicine physician formerly of the Altoona Regional Health System Bon – Secour campus and Anthony Zinobile, M.D., board certified family medicine physician formerly of Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown. Additional nursing staff has also been added to cover peak hours in the ER to enhance service to patients.
University Orthopedics Center and affiliated companies provide diagnostic, surgical and rehabilitation services for patients with musculo-skeletal injuries or chronic/degenerative orthopedic disorders. UOC, established in 1991, has office locations in Altoona, State College and Lewistown, and employs approximately 150 people.
