The Colonel Crowther Foundation is pleased to support recruiting for a civil war reenactment unit currently underway in Blair and Huntingdon counties.
The group being formed will portray companies of the 110th Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers.
This regiment had five companies of local men. Colonel James E. Crowther was Lt. Colonel, later promoted to full Colonel, who commanded the regiment until killed in the Battle of Chancellorsville.
Company A, Tyrone Infantry, were soldiers from Blair County, led by Captain David Jones. Company B, Mount Union Guards, were soldiers from Huntingdon County led by Captain Seth Benner.
Mike Gherrity, a resident of Birmingham, will lead this new unit of the Blue and Gray Brigade as the Captain. Mike, an experienced and dedicated civil war reenactor, encourages anyone who is interested in joining the unit to contact him at 814-684-3801 or by using the website contact at www.blueandgraybrigade.com.
Members of this new unit will join members of the Blue and Gray Brigade to be the Union infantry or that organization. As stated on their website, the Blue and Gray Brigade is:
“A fellowship of independent reenactors and living historians throughout the state of Pennsylvania and neighboring states, mainly focusing on the American Civil War era, but encompassing other eras such as French & Indian and Colonial. This includes the basic three branches of military service, Union and Confederate, including Infantry, Artillery & Cavalry and also Civilian life that supported them. Formed in Sept. 2006 as a family oriented non- profit organization, our goal is to re-create the life and times of these men and women through reenactments, education activities and historic displays at public events.
