Blair Senior Services, Inc. and Tyrone Hospital are co-sponsoring “Medication Management Day” at the Tyrone Senior Community Center on Thursday, March 8 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event offers three different ways people can learn about medication management, and people are invited to attend any or all portions of the event which includes: individual “medication-check-ups” with a pharmacist, an educational program that will be given by a pharmacist, and informational exhibits provided by Blair Senior Services. The entire event is free and open to the public.
Medication check-ups
Individuals can make an appointment to meet with a pharmacist to review their medications.
The medication check-ups are designed to assist older individuals that may be taking a number of different prescription medications as well as family members or other caregivers who assist them with medication. Those who participate will learn about potential drug interactions and precautions, medication side effects, and the effects of any over the counter drugs, vitamins, and herbal remedies for their individual medications.
Participants will also learn techniques that can help them remember to take their medicines on schedule. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 684-6348 by March 5. Medication check-up participants should bring all of their medications with them to the appointment in their original containers along with any over the counter medications, vitamins and herbal supplements taken.
