Arthur X. Kennedy, 87, a resident of Epworth Manor, Tyrone, formerly of 1751 Madison Ave., Tyrone, died Sunday evening, February 18, 2007 at the Manor.
He was born February 19, 1919 in Tyrone a son of the late Alexander X. and Pearl R. (Askey) Kennedy. He married Myra R. Rowan on June 9, 1941 in Cumberland, Md. She died on May 28, 1991.
Surviving are many nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters-in-law.
Mr. Kennedy was preceded in death by two sisters: Ruth K. Fields and LaRue Nagy and three brothers: Ronald L., Oscar A. and Hayes M. Kennedy.
Mr. Kennedy was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd, Tyrone where he served as chairman of the building committee, chairman of the finance committee and chairman of the trustee and administrative council.
He was a 1937 graduate of Tyrone High School and attended Indiana Technical College, Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
Mr. Kennedy was an Army veteran of World War II serving with the 104th Field Artillery Battalion in the Pacific Theater.
He retired in 1972 as a supervisor at Westvaco, Tyrone after 33 years of service then retired as Tyrone Borough Labor Supervisor in 1984 with 12 years of service.
Arthur enjoyed woodworking and gardening and was an avid Penn State football fan.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood and also from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, February 22, 2007 at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Tyrone. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 22, 2007 at the church with Rev. Andrew T. Bradley and Rev. Mark Liller officiating.
Interment at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
