Warriors Mark Township resident Bill Hoover will seek the GOP nomination to serve as Huntingdon County Commissioner in the upcoming May primary election, Hoover announced recently.
A lifelong resident of Huntingdon County, Hoover and his wife, Deb, own and operate a 700-acre grain farm in Warriors Mark Township. This business evolved from the original 60 cow, dairy farm that was purchased from Hoover’s father in 1976. The Hoovers raised two children, Doug and Billie Jo, in Huntingdon County.
Hoover’s public service began in 1990 when he was elected to the Board of Supervisors of Warriors Mark Township. He served as supervisor for 12 years. During that time he also served as chairman of the Huntingdon County Association of Township Supervisors. While in office, Hoover was instrumental in starting the township support of the farmland preservation program. Hoover also started the development of the old school property into a township park.
In 1992, he was elected to represent Warriors Mark Township on the Huntingdon County Republican Committee. In 1998 he was elected to serve as chairman of the committee and today is serving his third term as chairman.
Hoover is also active in the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau and is a member of the United States Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency State Committee. He is a member of the Birmingham Presbyterian Church.
“Huntingdon County is facing a lot of challenges in the coming years, such as office space needs and courthouse security. There are tough decisions to be made. I am prepared to make those decisions. I am a conservative. I will fight to protect landowner rights. I will fight to keep taxes low. But, I am also a realist. Providing services to the citizens of Huntingdon County is an important function of the County, but these services cost money. There are important agencies that must be maintained in order to protect the greater welfare of the citizens of Huntingdon County,” Hoover said.
“There are tremendous opportunities for the citizens of and visitors to Huntingdon County. I look forward to working to expand those opportunities. Huntingdon County is a fantastic place to live, work, raise a family and retire.”
