Northern Blair County has a new store to find something for the little ones.
Just before the holidays, The Tot Spot opened its doors at 501 Main Street in Bellwood. The Tot Spot offers more traditional, classic, and learning toys that can be difficult to find in typical toy stores.
Owner Jamie Baker explained that when her oldest son was three-years-old, she had a hard time finding toys for him that were geared toward his age level, fairly inexpensive, and that were not plastic and easily broken. This helped her come up with the idea of opening The Tot Spot.
Baker said she felt that everyone in Bellwood, Tyrone, and all other northern Blair County communities needed a store that carries quality, affordable items for children.
She added that for most of the larger chain stores, people have to travel all the way to the Altoona or State College areas to purchase toys for their children, and all those stores carry are a great deal of electronic and plastic merchandise that are at much higher prices.
The Tot Spot carries items for pre-school and elementary age children at reasonable prices, much lower than a lot of the larger chain stores. You will find a variety of puzzles, different types of blocks, plush puppets, puppet theaters, stuffed animals, lacing bead sets, wooden doll houses, and wooden train sets.
The Tot Spot will also be adding a larger variety of arts and crafts items in the near future. They also offer magic sets that are of good quality. For those adult and teens who enjoy checkers, chess, and dominos, there are wooden sets of these games that can be stored by hanging them on a wall.
Store hours for The Tot Spot are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. You can contact the store by phone at 742-8976 or by e-mail at atotspot@yahoo.com.
