Tree Decorating Contest
Once again this year, as part of The Tyrone Victorian Christmas, a tree decorating contest has been scheduled. A “walkway of trees” will be held at the Tyrone Armory. The contest is open to businesses, clubs, organizations, individuals, families and anyone else who may want to participate.
All trees must be artificial. The Tyrone Victorian Christmas Committee has 20 trees that can be used on a first-call basis. The trees can be put up and decorated between Nov. 27 and Nov. 30, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. All trees must be decorated by 3 p.m. on Nov. 30.
Trees will be judged in five categories: Victorian, Best of Show, Best in Representation of Business, Club or Organization, Most Original and Most Traditional.
Trees can be taken down between Dec. 4 and 7 from 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The Committee noted that it cannot be responsible for items on a tree. Participants may want to avoid using heirloom items as decorations. To register for the contest, contact Scott Collinash at 814-684-0517.

TACO to collect canned goods during parade
TACO members will again be doing their annual food drive for the Salvation Army the day of the Christmas Parade. Members from TACO said it makes them feel good to be able to help those in need in the community. Salvation Army representatives said that the food TACO collects the day of the parade enables the Salvation Army to help more families in the area. TACO members said watch for the truck and give generously.
Canned goods collected at parade
Girl Scout troop 1210 will be collecting canned goods along the parade route. The girls are working on their Silver Award and the Tyrone Food Bank is their community service. The truck will be decorated by the girls. Please bring canned goods and help the less fortunate that might not be able to buy food. Any local businesses that would like to donate food may do so and the troop will pick it up. The food bank is located at the Wesley United Methodist Church.
