The Tyrone Community Partnership is currently planning the annual Soup Sampling Contest, as part of the Victorian Christmas Celebration.
2006 Soup Sampling Chairman Scott Collinash is inviting folks to participate in this event.
For anyone new to the soup sampling, the contest consists of area restaurants agreeing to prepare and donate their most popular soup for sampling. Townspeople purchase tickets, which entitles them to a sampling of each soup, after which they vote for their favorite. At the end of the contest, the ballots are counted and the winners are determined with the coveted Soup Ladle award, recognizing their culinary achievement.
The Soup Sampling is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 30 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Tyrone Armory. Doors will be open at 2:30 p.m. Each participant will set up on individual tables, which will be dressed by the Tyrone Community Partnership.
Participants are required to bring table decorations (if they desire), soup, and ladle for serving and a means of keeping the soup hot.
They will also need to provide someone to serve the soup and represent the participating restaurant. The Tyrone Community Partnership will dress and skirt each table, provide soup cups, spoons, napkins, crackers, dessert and beverages.
Each participant is asked to make four to six gallons of soup. To make sure there will be a variety of soups, each participant is asked to prepare only one kind of soup. Soup specialties will be taken on a first-call basis.
The Partnership is hoping to have a wide variety of soup from many area restaurants. Last year, more than 250 people enjoyed the soups at the event. The Partnership said the event is “a great community event, and a great way to showcase your restaurant.”
Area restaurants wanting to register or anyone having questions about the Soup Sampling Contest should contact 814-684-0517.
