HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. (AP) — A prison inmate hanged himself in his cell a day after he had said he was suicidal, two deputies said.
Blair County Sheriff deputies John Higgins and John Miller said they reported to jail staff that Jeremy Shane Corbin, of Bellwood, had threatened to kill himself when they transported him to the Blair County Prison on Oct. 19.
“He said it a bunch of times. He wanted to kill himself,” Higgins said.
One of Corbin’s three cellmates found him dead in his cell Oct. 20, with a bedsheet around his neck, officials said. The inmate said he told jail officials of a possible suicide attempt.
Warden Donald Ott said prison protocol was followed.
Corbin, who was in jail awaiting a court appearance for allegedly violating a protection-from-abuse order, had been evaluated by the jail’s mental health professional. His mental state also had been reviewed two hours before he killed himself, Ott said.
Ott said he would meet with the jail’s medical provider to discuss the suicide.
