TACO Halloween Parade
The TACO Halloween Parade has been rescheduled for Tuesday, October 24 at 6 p.m.
Registration for the costume judging will start at 4:30 p.m. at the Tyrone Highway Dept. Parade line up will begin at 5 p.m. in front of the Highway Dept. If interested in taking part in the parade, call Tim Kirkpatrick at 684-0704.

Bellwood Halloween Parade
The Halloween parade has been set for Tuesday, October 24 beginning at 6 p.m. Line up will begin at Houser’s at 5:30 p.m. Trick-or-treat is scheduled for Thursday October 26 from 6 to 8 p.m.

DCWV meeting
The next meeting of the Descendants of Civil War Veterans will take place at the Bellwood-Antis Public Library at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 25. The speakers will be Doug and Julie Decker who will present a program on the History of Civil War Medicine. The public is invited to attend.

Aleutian Island Military Veterans
The Aleutian Island Military Veterans will reunite October 25-27 at 2 p.m. in Williamsport. All service branches veterans, guests and spouses are welcome. Grace Baptist celebrates 135th anniversary
On October 26, 1872, a congregation of 13 believers in the Lord Jesus Christ met for the first official service of the Grace Baptist Church.
Then on Sunday, October 29, at 8:15 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and again at 6:30 p.m., beloved Pastor Allen Smith will return to Tyrone as the guest speaker. Pastor Smith served as the Pastor of Grace from 1981 to 1987. It was during that time period that an addition was built onto the church which doubled the size of the present facility.
An infant and toddler nursery will be available during Sunday services.
Remember to come early as the church will fill up fast.

A-Maze-of-Grace
On October 26 from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Grace Student Ministries will host an incredible maze for the youth in the community. It will be located in the basement of Grace Baptist Church, across from East End Pizza.
It will be dark, it will be exciting, it will be a-MAZE-ing.
There will be hot chocolate and candy along with a few other goodies at the end for those who make it out to the maze. Make sure to stop by on the way through town to try your hand at figuring out the maze.
Light the Night
Mom and dad, kids of all ages come to “Light the Night”, October 26, from 6-8 p.m. “Light the Night” is a safe and supervised Halloween night environment. Games, prizes, puppets, face painting, candy, hotdogs, hot popcorn and beverages, all will be provided free. As a special treat for the kids, “Handi” the Clown will also make an appearance. “Light the Night” will be in the parking lot behind Burger King, and is sponsored by First Assembly of God Church.

Light the Night
Light the Night at Lynn and Shelby Shaffer’s residence located at 2114 Columbia Ave. will be held October 26. Bring the whole family out for a safe night of fun with games, music, food and door prizes during the trick or treat times of 6 to 8 p.m. Beginning at 8 p.m. a youth rally will be held with speaker Mark VanOuse of WTLR Radio. United Way of Blair County helps community members find low cost prescription coverage
Need prescription assistance but not sure how you can find help?
Once a month beginning Thursday, October 26, the United Way of Blair County will be taking appointments for community members who lack prescription coverage to help get the medicines they need through a public or private program that\’s right for them. With the help of The Partnership for Prescription Assistance clients can bring a list of medications they have and work with a United Way VISTA member to find programs that help them pay for their prescriptions. More than 2,500 brand-name and generic medicines are covered. Appointments will be every 15 minutes between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call Sarah Ergler at (814)944-0884 to set up your appointment. This service is completely free and confidential.
The United Way of Blair County is a volunteer-driven organization that unites people to care for one another.

The Tyrone High School Class of 1952 will meet at noon for lunch at Joe’s Place in Bald Eagle on Thursday, October 26.
Classmates, friends and spouses are welcome.

60 and over fellowship
The “60 and over fellowship” of Tipton Baptist Church will be held Thursday, October 26 at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Richard Hurd of Port Matilda Baptist Church will speak and also provide some special musical numbers. There will also be congregational singing in the sanctuary and a luncheon will be served in the annex following the service. The church is located behind the Tipton Post Office at the corner of Deborah and Forest Streets. All are welcome to attend.
Long’s Haunted House
Long’s Haunted House returns this year October 26-31 at the Sinking Valley Fairgrounds, located off the Bellwood Exit (I99), bottom of Skelp. All proceeds benefit the Sinking Valley Farm Show.

PRR Middle Division Employees’ Reunion
The Middle Division Chapter of the Pennsylania Railroad Technical and Historical Society will host a reception for all former employees of the PRR Middle Division on Saturday October 28, 2006 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Lewistown Junction Station, Lewistown. All former Middle Division employees — from administration to track walker — are invited to attend. Light refreshments will be provided, and tours of the station will be offered.

Owls and Spiders and Bats! Oh, my! Join the Creature Teacher, Jody Wallace, from the Blair County Conservation District in exploring the creepy-crawly critters associated with Halloween at the Tyrone-Snyder Public Library Tuesday, October 31 at 7 p.m.

Buffet dinner
The Warriors Mark United Methodist Church, will host a buffet dinner on Friday, November 3 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The dinner will feature deep fried and baked fish, ham and green bean bake, vegetable mix, baked macaroni adn cheese, stewed tomatoes, creamy cole slaw, roll and fruit salad. Fall bazaar
The Port Matilda United Methodist Church (corner of Main and Church St.) is hosting a fall bazaar on Saturday, November 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring handmade crafts and themed gift baskets, white elephant item, bake sale and the best luncheon in town.
Menu includes sloppy joes, hot dogs and sauerkraut, grilled chicken sandwich, chicken corn soup, ham and bean soup, macaroni salad, coleslaw, baked beans and homemade desserts.

AARP class
Reduce your auto insurance by five percent the next three years by attending two, four hour classroom sessions. Learn how to avoid driving hazards and learn about updates to the latest traffic laws. There is not a test. To qualify for the insurance discount, participants must be 55-years-old and both husband and wife need to attend if they are on the same policy. The Chicago Rivet retirees will hold their monthly breakfast at Joe’s Place at 8:30 a.m. Meetings are scheduled for the rest of the year, including November 9 and December 14.

Theme basket auction
The Christ United Methodist Church, 14th Street & Pa. Avenue Tyrone, is hosting a Theme Basket Auction on Sunday November 12. It will be held in the Education Unit of the Church beginning at 1 p.m. Church members are busy creating wonderful baskets, in a wide variety of themes, for the event. The Church members would like to invite all to come & enjoy. Bring a friend or two. Light refreshments will be available. Proceeds will benefit the Ways & Means Committee and ongoing projects at the Church.

Holiday bazaar
A holiday bazaar will be held at the Warriors Mark Fire Hall on Saturday, November 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be crafts, baked goods and homemade soup. Lunch will be available.

High Tea at Trinity Episcopal Church
Purple Iris, one of the last of artist Andy Moore’s water colors, will be featured at the third annual High Tea at the Trinity Episcopal Church. The gorgeous painting, which is 15 inches by 25 inches, will be offered in a raffle. The painting was previously on display at the Tyrone Hospital and was left to the church by Andy to use as a fundraiser. Andy, who died in late May, was a well-known artist previously living in Birmingham. This is the last of Andy’s works to be offered to the public.
The popular high tea will take place on December 2 at 4 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church on Washington Avenue. Tickets for this event are sold out, but individuals are still encouraged to purchases chances for the original painting by Andy Moore.

B-A AARP
The Bellwood-Antis AARP Chapter No. 1063 will hold its Christmas party Wednesday, December 13, at the Trinity United Methodist Church at noon. Tickets go on sale at the November 8 AARP meeting at 1 p.m. or by calling 742-7276 or 742-7882. The last day for tickets are December 9. Anyone may come to the Christmas dinner. Those attending are asked to bring a food item for the food bank.
The next AARP meeting is Wednesday, January 10 at the Bellwood-Antis Senior Center at 1 p.m.

Tyrone Renaissance

Bible study class
The Tyrone Church of the Brethren has added a Saturday morning Bible study to its educational opportunities. The class is held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome.

Preschool openings
A Child’s Garden Preschool, located at the Tyrone Church of the Brethren, has a few openings for children ages three to five-years-old, for the 2006-07 school year.

Tyrone Salvation Army now open
The Tyrone Salvation Army is now open at its new location at 908 Pennsylvania Avenue, Tyrone. It’s open Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Tyrone Salvation Army always accepts clothing and food items. It also accepts appliances, bedding, etc. It is currently in need of children’s clothing.
Monetary contributions can be mailed to: Salvation Army Service Center, P.O. Box 142 Tyrone, PA 16686 and can also be dropped off at the 908 Pennsylvania Avenue location. The phone number is 684-1664.
