The new Central Pennsylvania Humane Society 2007 “Picture Perfect Pet” calendar is currently available at The Daily Herald office located on Pennsylvania Avenue in Tyrone.
The full color, glossy print calendars feature over 70 local pets who competed for the honor of being pictured as a month, on a special “honorable mention” page or on the front/back cover.
“This is our second year of producing the calendar and we think we’ve ‘kicked it up a notch’,” said Dave Hopkins, CPHS Director of Fundraising/Public Relations.
Pet owners this year raised over $20,000 in the contest, setting a new all-time record by more than $3,000 for an individual fundraising event to benefit the shelter’s homeless animals.
The calendars sell for $7 each and are $5 for CPHS card-carrying members.
Besides The Daily Herald office, the CPHS shelter and thrift shop, other locations to purchase calendars include: Chris’ Hallmark, Brew Zoo, Thompson Pharmacy, V.I.P. Pets and Aquarium, Tyrone Veterinary Associates, New Look Uniform, Ambience Photography, Moments Photography, Ray Kauffman Photography, Baronner’s Farm Market, Quality Awards, A-1 Auto Glass; Beaks, Paws and Claws; Veterinary Hospital of Altoona, Rustic Country Furniture and more to be announced later.
“We have a limited quantity this year and we hope folks will buy them soon so they’re not disappointed,” said Hopkins.
“We want to thank everyone who took part in this project,” said Hopkins, “all the pet owners, our advertisers, our printer (Press Box) and especially our photographers who did such an incredible job.”
The animals at the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society always need support, and there are several different ways in which area residents can help.
Old inkjet cartridges from the computer can be dropped off at the shelter, where inside the lobby, there is a big carton just waiting to be filled. Cartridge World, Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, has outfitted CPHS with the special recycling box and signed the shelter up for their program that pays for turning in used cartridges. The shelter will receive $1 to $2 for each used cartridge it turns over to Cartridge World. The cartridges are then cleaned up and re-fitted for re-sale.
Also, CPHS has an on-going wish list for those who would like to donate an item to the shelter, which can include: kitty litter, puppy and kitten food, leashes and collars, toys and treats for the animals, bleach and laundry detergent, medium-sized gloves for cleaning, old blankets and towels, copy paper, postage stamps, hand sanitizer and paper towels.
