Bellwood Borough Council announced several upcoming dates for October at last night’s council meeting.
The Halloween parade has been set for Tuesday, October 24 beginning at 6 p.m. Line up will begin at Houser’s at 5:30 p.m.
Trick-or-treat is scheduled for Thursday October 26 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Also, council set the dates for fall leaf pick-up within the borough. Residents may place leaves in recyclable paper bags along the curb each Friday beginning October 20 and lasting through December 1, excluding Veteran’s Day, November 10. Pick-up will begin at 7:30 a.m.
Council also had the task of filling a vacancy left on the board following the resignation of Leonard Cherry last month. Cherry resigned from borough council and the water authority in September. However, after much consideration, Cherry wrote a letter to the council asking to remain on the water authority.
With five affirmative votes and Chris Creek abstaining, council voted to appoint Cherry to fill the remainder of the vacated term on the authority.
As for the vacancy left on the council, two letters of interest were received, one from Herb Shelow, who ran a write-in campaign during the last elections and one from Steve Palovich.
In a four to two vote, Palovich was appointed to fill the vacancy on borough council.
Also on hand at last night’s meeting was Linda Aveni, a representative from the 911 Center. Aveni was present to discuss addressing guidelines, saying all of Blair County will have descriptive addresses by spring 2007.
She went on to explain all rural route and post office boxes, include empty buildings and warehouses will receive descriptive addresses. Although residents who receive their mail at a PO Box will still get their mail at the post office, they will also receive a descriptive address.
Council agreed it should be fairly easy within the borough as there are no rural route addresses. They will still have to look at street names to be sure there are not duplicates, make sure street signs are up to date and things of that nature to prepare for the 911 system.
According to Aveni, men are currently canvassing the entire county collecting data to be sent to the 911 Center. They are leaving papers attached to the doors of homes and buildings along rural routes as well as those they are unsure of.
In other business, council approved ordinance No. 473 which amends the delinquent reality transfer tax to bring it into conformance with state law.
They also adopted Resolution 09-11-06, a resolution to apply for a grant for swimming pool renovations and approved the Minimum Municipal Obligation for 2007 for the pension plan.
