The 23rd Annual Farm/City Day at Reservoir Park is fast approaching, as the Rotary Club of Tyrone has the event scheduled for this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine.
The event is free and open to the public, and it’s always an exciting day for both young and old alike.
Because of improved booth arrangement, all traffic must enter the park from Reservoir Drive.
For the kids, there will be a live petting zoo, hay wagon rides, a bouncy house and more. Also, FFA is scheduled to set up a dunk tank, and there will be a puppet stage for skits and songs, as well as a booth for face painting.
An exciting addition this year will be a 1951 Mac fire truck available for the kids to ride. The fire truck will run one minute or so behind the hay wagon rides.
Local fire company trucks will be on display as well as farm equipment, and there will be a first aid station set up by Tyrone Hospital. There will also be other displays from area businesses and organizations as well as a dog rescue display.
An assortment of crafters and vendors will set up booths as well as non-profit organizations will sell items as a fundraiser. There will also be a bake sale and other food items available for purchase.
An example of some of the items that will be available at Farm/City Day include: crafts, Tyrone High School football merchandise, sports cards and memorabilia, jewelry, plants, candles, produce, quilts, raffle tickets, garden flags, totes, wreaths, woodwork and more.
Food will be available such as: sno balls, shaved ice, tacos, chili, salads, ham barbecue, funnel cakes, lemonade, barbecue chicken, drinks, kettle corn, fried twinkies and oreos, apple fritters, wings, french fries, hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken patties, pies, cotton candy, haluski and more.
Tickets for the Rotary Club chicken barbecue can be purchased in advance from any Rotarian, Kelly Wike’s State Farm office or the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce office.
The event will also be broadcast live over WTRN, and there will be live entertainment at the park as well.
A new 2006 Farm/City Day T-shirt is available for purchase.
The first Rotary Farm/City Day was held in 1984 in a one-block area of downtown Tyrone. Everyone was in close proximity which made it very easy for young and old alike to get to see everything including friends, displays and entertainment.
The new Farm/City Day arrangement at Reservoir Park is meant to provide the benefits of those early years with some extra space and the beauty of a September day at the park.
