Mr. Jack G. Lucas, 80, of 1005 Jefferson Avenue, Tyrone died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006 at 9:45 p.m. at his residence.
He was born Jan. 15, 1926 in Tarentum, Pa, the son of Gilbert and Helen Harriet Smith Lucas and on Nov. 30, 1946 at the Trinity Episcopal Church he was married to Marietta D. “Pete” Gray who survives.
He is also survived by three sons- Michael (Marlene), Jamestown, NY; Gilbert (Sharon), Tyrone; and Jay (Maureen), Houston, PA; seven grandchildren- Nicholas, Elizabeth, Jack, Henry, Bobby, Taylor, Jennifer and a niece Jeannie, the ward of Gilbert and Sharon.
Also surviving is one sister- Patricia Ann Lucas, Willow Grove, PA and one brother- Robert, Chambersburg, two nieces and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters- Beverly Heran and Jeanne Mahoney.
He was a graduate of Tyrone High School, Class of 1944, received a B.S. degree in industrial engineering from Penn State in 1951 and was a Pennsylvania licensed professional engineer.
He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church where he had served on the Vestry.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was a member of Howard Gardner American Legion Post No. 281; B.P.O.E. No. 212; Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company, the Masons and the Penn State Alumni Association.
He was employed by Honeywell in Philadelphia for 15 years, by U.S. Envelope Co. in Williamsburg for eight years and retired in 1989 from Pennsylvania Electric Co. after 15 years service.
He was an avid Penn State fan, enjoyed his family, particularly his grandchildren and was always very pleased to serve as chief cook at the annual Lucas family reunion.
A memorial service for Mr. Lucas will be held Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2006 at 11:30 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church with Pastor Jeanne Jacobson officiating.
Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Contributions in his memory may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 830 Washington Avenue, Tyrone, PA 16686.
