The 23rd season of live theater experiences is about to begin with auditions for the opening show in the season titled “Building On Our Past…”
The Tyrone Community Players will kick off the holiday season with an original musical interpretation of Charles Dickens’ timeless holiday ghost story. William Allen Jones’, “A Christmas Caroled”, was premiered by the TCP in 1999 and has since become the traditional first gift in the Christmas holiday season.
This year the TCP will venture to the historic Mishler Theater in Altoona to open this gift for everyone.
The first step in preparation for this holiday spectacular will be auditions, scheduled for Sunday and Monday, September 17 and 18 at 7 p.m. in The Building, home of the TCP, located at 1019 Logan Ave., Tyrone.
Auditions are open to the public and all roles in this show are available. Persons auditioning are asked to be prepared with a vocal audition not to exceed 35 measures. An accompanist and CD player will be available at auditions for convenience. Anyone interested in auditioning for the ensemble only, a song from the show will be taught for auditioning purposes.
Director for this seasonal delicacy is Cindy Bennett. Cindy, an experienced director, was last at the helm of the 2006 smash hit, “Seussical”. Working at her side, providing the musical direction, will be Karen Mayhew, musical director for last seasons delightful, “My Way, A Tribute To Frank Sinatra”.
“Both Karen and I are very excited to be involved with this production. It\’s a tribute to the creative talent that thrives within this community.” Bennett stated. “We are confident that the honesty and respect Mr. Jones shows to the original text of Dickens, in conjunction with his lilting and memorable score, will carry everyone involved, both performers, technicians and audiences, into the true and joyful meaning of the season.”
Performance dates for the Tyrone Community Players production of William Allen Jones’, “A Christmas Caroled”, will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 24, 25 and 26.
