BiLo Markets announced yesterday that it has pulled all Food Club bottled spring water from its shelves and is voluntarily recalling all sizes of all Food Club spring water produced between June 27, 2006 and August 4, 2006.
The production date is located in the serial number on the neck of each individual bottle below the expiration date. The production date is the last six numbers of the serial number.
BiLo and its corporate parent, The Penn Traffic Company, decided to voluntarily recall the bottled water after receiving test results that showed that the level of bromate is higher than Food and Drug Administration limits in some of the water bottled during those dates.
“There is absolutely no health risk to drinking this water, but we’re recalling the water voluntarily because it does not meet FDA regulations,” said Bob Chapman, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Penn Traffic Company, which operates 22 BiLo supermarkets in Pennsylvania and supplies an additional 54 BiLo and Riverside supermarkets.
There are no studies showing that bromate in drinking water causes any illness in humans.
“We pulled from our shelves all affected Food Club Spring Water produced between June 27 and August 4,” said Chapman.
